911 call from a lady at Burger King

This is both sad and hilarious! Listen to this 911 call from a crazy lady at Burger King... I just don't understand how people like this survive daily life, but at least their existence is bringing me some laughs at work on this slow Friday afternoon!

Jacob. March. Colorado. Mustache. Crazy Headware.

Jake is in Colorado coaching for the entire month of March... sigh... but in between races, it sounds like he is having some good adventures. Just saw this pic on his Facebook profile this morning and it made me laugh out loud. I guess he doesn't have to worry about running into the fashion police out in the Colorado backcountry :) I sure miss him and I am super excited to meet up with him in Utah for some skiing and shenanegans with Ali and Trevor! 9 MORE DAYS!!!

Underwater Sculptures by Jason de Caires Taylor

Here's some weird art for ya. This guy makes beautiful sculptures of people and groups of people - except they also double as artificial reefs for reef-dwelling organisms to inhabit. Underwater sculpture. Cool because they continue to change as new organisms settle in but also a bit creepy. Makes me think of ghosts - like spirits left behind after a shipwreck or pirate attack (both of which still occur apparently). Also reminds me of the Petoskey crucifix... which I've seen in person, under water! Creepy!

USCSA National Championships

Well, this time I went to Nationals as a spectator instead of as a participant - so much less stressful! The snow in Colorado was sub-par to say the least, with about a weeks worth of melted and refrozen crusty stuff covering pretty much all of Winter Park. For us Midwesterners, however, it felt like the norm and actually kind soft at times. No tree skiing though. Crust on fluff = not fun. Kale was very surprised to see me and did a bit of a double take when I skied up next to him. He skied really well in the GS. I didn't know he could go that fast! We won't talk about the slalom, except to say that the course took out a large chunk of the field - boo. Overall it was a great trip and it felt so good to be in the mountains, hanging out with ski racers. That's my natural habitat :)

Super-Star Skiers

Next weekend is that last race of the season for the Buck Hill D-Team and I am going to miss it! I am so sad! I will be making the trek across the upper-midwest to Winter Park, Colorado to watch my brother compete in the USCSA National Championships with the University of MN ski team. Go Kale! Except don't tell him - it's a suprise... pretty sure he doesn't read this... really hope he doesn't...

Anywho - I am missing the last race with my little "Super-Star Skiers" - this is the team name that my group of eight 6-8 year-old girls picked out for themselves. Throughout the season I have grown attached to the speedy little squirts, their toothless smiles, hot-pink ski gear and the hilarious things they say ..."my butt is sweaty Kate!" ..."We went to breakfast at bur-bur king"... "I ski faster if I smile a lot"... I sure am going to miss them!

So, I decided to design a decal for their helmets so they can remember what a fun season it was. I think it turned out well. I ordered 12 on zazzel.com - which seems like a pretty cool site where you can create your own stuff for a very reasonable price - and no minimum orders - nice! Here's the design - what do you think? I think the girls will love it!

Padraig's Place Fundraiser Race at Buck

Well, if there was any doubt about me stinking at giant slalom it was erased last Friday. I raced with team SWAT in the Padraig's Place Fundraiser and had a blast. Too bad the event wasn't slalom. Fortunately, I was the only girl on the team- so a gap was too be expected. Maybe I should have brought the right skis. It was great to race again and the after party included a band, free food, free beer and giveaways! Yeah for Nastar! I think I might have to sign up for beer league next year...
