If only...

I know that material things cannot bring true happiness, but I would be willing to test that theory by having someone buy this home for me to live in and then periodically reporting on my overall state of happiness. Any takers?

You might be a child of the 90's if...

...you remember the days long before the existence of blogs like this, heck before anyone actually even needed to know how to use a computer!

I found this hilarious list of things that you most likely are familiar with if you were a child of the 90's. I was born in 1984, so I spent my fair share in the 80's, but really, reaching age 6 and entering the world of grade school really opened my eyes to the world. The world in the eyes of a child in the 90's.

Here are some of my favorites from the list :)

You yearned to be part of the Baby-Sitters club.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school (Mine was Little mermaid).

You remember the craze and then the banning of slap bracelets (It was rumored that someone actually died using a slap bracelet!)

You wore stirrup pants. (I actually wore gold animal-print stirrup pants. Yes…yes, I did.)

You played and or collected "Pogs." (Sometimes for fun and sometimes for “keeps”.)

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand. (I love love loved Lisa Frank. My dream was to own a Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper.)

You used to wear those stick on earrings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes. (Oh and on your finger nails!)

You thought it would be so cool to be Alex Mack. (I read all of the books too…)

“Portable” phones only worked up to the edge of the front yard.

You owned many teenage mutant Ninja Turtle accessories. (I had the bike collection with spoke beads.)

You made those little paper fortune cookie things… and then predicted your life with them.

If you even know what an original walkman is. (I used to steal my Mom’s Paula Abdul tape all the time.)

You use to love playing with your MY Little Pet Shop.

You thought Gak was the coolest thing invented.

You watched the OJ Simpson Bronco chase live on TV. (And listened to the court decision on the radio IN SCHOOL!)

You wondered: Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?

Third Bike's a Charm

Meet my new bike. While perusing the art fair and downtown Excelsior last weekend I ran into this fantastic old Schwinn. I went in and tried to bargain, but they wouldn't go any lower than 90 bucks - yikes. The tires and tubes need to be replaced and with the recent purchase of a wheel and a kiln that will be requiring my attention, I had to walk away. I couldn't leave without taking a picture though. I also walked by one last time on the way home :(

I fail to mention that I already have two bikes that I store in our tiny little apartment garage stall - oh, and that Jake also has three bikes and is shopping for a forth. So, this is definitely a want and not a need. I realize this - but this gem was just so charming. I'm not a hoarder - I promise.

I got home and I just couldn't stop thinking about it...

The chrome is still gleaming, the handle bars grips are glittery, the seat is has more personality than some people I know, the basket is just like the one I used to ride in with my Dad when I was really young and it's GREEN! An amazing shade of green... have I mentioned that I LOVE GREEN... yeah. So, I emailed and expressed to the shop owner that I just had to have it, but I couldn't pay that much and then you know what happened!?!! She replied and said she would sell it to me for the price I named! High fives for persistence.

So tonight I pick up my dream bike.
Glorious :)

BioArt

Science and art unite!

I love biology and I love artsy-creativeness. Here is one of my newly acquired pieces of what I like to think of as "bio art". I actually got it a little while back on Etsy from a great shop called LBrandt.

I had a little issue with over-watering and in no time at all, little white fuzzy mold fluffs began sprouting up all over. As much as I oddly enjoying watching the new inhabitants of the tiny glass orb stake their claim and slowly take over the poor little grazing figurine sheep, I decided to start anew. Last night, I replanted some new moss, which was kindly sent to me by the seller (very generous!). I hope it all works out this time!

Celebrate Awkwardness

I love love love this blog. My brother Kale shared it with me. I can't help but giggle every time I visit. I definitely have some very worthy photos that I could submit... still trying to decide if that would be a good plan or not. There are so many options in my family albums... soooo many options...

Strikes, Gutters and Pasties...

Over the Memoral Day weekend I found myself in one of those situations where you suddenly stop and think to yourself, "How did I end up here!?" Jake and I decided to check out the Memory Lanes Block Party which is just a couple blocks from where he works. We arrived around 9:30 in the evening and enjoyed the warm summery air, some live outdoor hip-hop, some spectacular people watching. The place was saturated with hipster-doofus', leather, tatoos and crazy hair-dos. As the evening progressed, the show moved indoors to the bowling alley- literally... the stage was in the middle of the lanes. This is nothing new. Every weekend they feature a band that plays on a stage right there on the center lanes the open lanes are transformed into a glow-in-the-dark, bowling/light show experience, which is a blast - I recommend it.

On this particular evening, however, the musical lineup included a burlesque show complete with song, dance, and strip tease - as in, ladies were lip-sinking/dancing to music while removing the elaborate costumes that corresponded to the theme of the song... i.e. teachers pet, some western tune, a song about baking, ect. By the end of each bit they were down to their barely-there undies and pasties that usually also went with the theme... i.e. sequined apples, fringe tassels and cupcakes... complete with lit birthday candles... no... I am not embellishing... The grand finale was a 3D sillhouette striptease... that's right, we were wearing 3D glasses watching the blue and red shadow sillouettes of a lady stripping behind a sheet strung up on a stage in the middle of lanes 10, 11 and 12... that's when I paused to ask myself the question "How did I end up here again? I'm watching a 3D strip tease in the middle of a bowling alley... People are still bowling on the open lanes... What!?!?" We did not pay a cover. For some reason that makes me feel a little better about it?

Actually (I can't believe I'm saying this) it was a pretty good show. Very entertaining, and the girls were actually really good at, um... singing... amongst other things... I left with a fresh feeling of confidence and a healthy sense of being a lot more comfortable with my body. Don't get any ideas though. Despite Jake's encouragement, I will not be applying for a job with Le Cirque Rouge.

Who knew that arranging words could provide hours of entertainment? Then again, I am so easily amused...
